The Perth Reach Ahead program was born out of a desire to enact change.

The mission of Perth Reach Ahead is to not only to build strong learners, but to build and nurture strong community members.  The youth that participate in this program are among the most under-represented groups of individuals in our county in terms of social services and supports.  Perth Reach Ahead seeks to help give those youth a voice in their community by building and strengthening community partnerships and giving them the skills they need to enact change.

Instructors use the Foxfire classroom management method:  Participants work together to complete a community action project while earning a GLS1O credit.  What makes the program work is that the students ultimately decide what they need to know in order to complete the project. They take responsibility for their learning.

Community and Media

For change to happen, the entire community must be a part.

The program relies on community partners.  Our students need experts, mentors, donors, cheerleaders and role models.  If you are interested in participating or contributing, please contact the instructors Tiffany and Johann Ramsaran at theramsarans@perthreachahead.com.

For more information about the firefox method and our community impact model, feel free to take a look at a copy of our presentation materials from the Upper Canada District School Board's Small School Summit in 2013.
