BUILDING TOMORROW'S LEADERS

Perth Reach Ahead 2014

From 2010 to 2014, The Perth Reach Ahead program gave grade 8 students the opportunity to earn a high-school credit while developing learning and leadership skills that will serve them for the rest of their academic career.

As the course progressed, students worked with service partners in planning a community-impact project of their own design and scope.  Past classes have worked with members of the OPP, Yak Youth centre, the library, town council, United Way Lanark and several of its member agencies.

To prepare for their community-impact project, students attended evening sessions twice weekly and covered topics such as learning styles, time-management, research and note-taking skills, collaborative skills, organization skills and leadership.

Reach-Ahead graduates enter grade 9 as young leaders, armed with the learning strategies they need to find success.
